Hostgator Review & Facts by Real Users
Not as many other Hostgator reviews, I’ll try to be as honest as possible in sharing my experience with you. I’m using Hostgator for a long time now and I truly have many things to say about this company. I’ve been through a lot of different phases and pass gone a lot of problems. I did experience some bad support agents and sometimes I couldn’t find my site being up.
The one thing I learned about Hostgator after 4 years of experience with them is to not trust most of the fake Hostgator reviews out there. Many people are promoting this company just to get a commission out of it. In this Hostgator review you’ll notice that I’m not promoting Hostgator but I’m just laying down some of the facts that I found interesting.
Downtime stories
A lot of people complain about Hostgator’s downtime. It seems that you really need to be very lucky in order to not have your site crashing down multiple times. To be honest I did experienced a lot of downtime moments on my shared hosting plan and sometimes it lasted for an entire day. After contacting with the support they told me they fixed the problem but they didn’t gave me a free month of hosting as they say in their uptime guarantee.
This may sounds really scary for you but you must consider that many different hosting companies have this same downtime problem. Godaddy for example is famous for its downtimes; even tough is one of the most recognized hosting brands in the world.
The downtime factor also depends on the amount of traffic you send to your site. If the number is higher than 1,000 visitors a day don’t blame Hostgator. Instead get a personal server plan. This may solve your problem.
Before you choose a plan with Hostgator have in mind that the shared hosting plans have multiple sites on a single server. One server’s capacity can be overloaded if your or somebody else that is hosted on the same server has too much incoming request.
Support
I hear people commenting on different Hostgator reviews that nobody replied to their ticket or that their support assistance was really poor and not educated. Considering my own customer support experience with Hostgator I can completely agree on that. It surprises me that a company of this size can’t hire a decent support team.
Couple of days ago I read a ticket conversation between a support agent and a customer. The support agent was telling him that his site was shut down because of a plugin that he had installed on his Wordpress site. This was some of the most ridiculous answers I have ever heard from a hosting support agent.
Imagine if you were running a serious online business that you depend on and your site gets deleted or shut down without any previous notice just because you installed the wrong plugin. These are the kind of reasons that force me to advise you to not choose Hostgator if you’re running a serious online business. Their dedicated server plans may be managed by a better support team but all the shared hosting support guys are the worst thing that ever happened to Hostgator.
